About the artist

Andrew Field in his studio

Artist statement

I paint the point where light stops being still. Working in thin, repeated layers of oil, wax and glaze, I try to hold a moment of movement — a current, a reflection, a line of weather — inside a surface that stays quiet enough to look at for a long time. Colour is kept cool and narrow so that a single warm or luminous note can carry the whole painting.
